Spring Clean Your Wedding Plans: Things You Don't Actually "Need"

Wedding planning has a way of feeling light and exciting for a very short period of time, then it slowly seems to fade into stress, frustration, and unfortunately some chaos. Somewhere along the way, it can feel like you need to add more to make it feel special. Possibly more decor, maybe more small details that people will notice and appreciate, more structure, more “things” to make it all come together.

In all honestly, some of the best weddings don’t feel that way because they had more, they feel that way because everything made sense. Nothing felt forced, nothing felt overdone, and it didn’t come with an excessive amount of stress to make it special. If you’re planning your wedding this spring, this is your reminder that you don’t have to do everything. In fact, letting go of a few things might be what makes your day feel the most like you. Here are a few things that people are realizing they actually don’t need at their Pines Wedding.

You Don’t Need a Day-Of Coordinator to Run the Show

A lot of couples go into planning thinking they need someone dedicated to running every second of the day. While that can be helpful in some situations, it’s not always necessary, especially when your venue already has a helpful team that knows exactly how weddings run. Here at The Pines, your venue manager is there to run your rehearsal and even your ceremony. From the very start of the day to the very end, you are in the hands of a wedding vendor who has a timeline they intend to follow, so they do well in guiding you into the next part of your day. It may seem too good to be true, but things tend to fall into place more naturally than people expect.

Instead of adding another layer, you can just trust the people who are already there to support you.

You Don’t Need Full Table Linens

Table linens feel like one of those “default” wedding things, but they don’t have to be. A lot of couples are skipping them altogether, especially when our Grain Design tables themselves are part of the look. Natural wood tables already bring so much warmth and character, and most of the time, they don’t need to be covered up. If anything, keeping it simple with a runner or minimal décor ends up feeling more modern and intentional anyway.

You Don’t Need a Full Seating Chart (Outside of Immediate Family)

Seating charts can get overwhelming fast. Of course, it makes sense to have spots saved for immediate family and a few key people. But assigning every single guest to a specific seat? Not always necessary.

More couples are leaning toward open seating for the rest of their guests, and it actually creates a more relaxed, social feel. People find their way, sit with who they want, and it just feels easier. This also gives way to people being put in situations where they might talk to someone they haven’t met yet, establishing a connection they wouldn’t have had the opportunity to have otherwise. And honestly, it saves you a LOT of time during planning too, and who doesn’t want that?

You Don’t Need a Large Wedding Cake

Big, tiered wedding cakes look beautiful, but they also take time, coordination, and a lot of the time…they don’t even get fully eaten. A lot of couples are switching to a smaller cake for the cutting moment and pairing it with finger size desserts that guests can grab themselves such as cupcakes, bars, macarons, things like that.

It keeps the night moving, feels more casual, and guests actually enjoy it more because they can just grab something when they want to.

You Don’t Need a Printed Program

Programs are one of those details that feel important ahead of time, but don’t really play a huge role during the day. Between your officiant guiding the ceremony and the natural flow of everything, guests usually know what’s going on without needing something in their hands. Skipping them doesn’t take anything away, it just simplifies things a bit.

You Don’t Need a Plated Dinner

Plated dinners can feel like the “traditional” route, but they also come with a higher cost and a more structured timeline. Buffets have become a go-to for a reason. They move faster than people expect, give guests options, and keep the night from feeling like it’s paused for too long. This is becoming to popular with our exclusive catering partner Chef’s Table, that they not consider the Buffet-style their “preferred” guest option vs. the non-traditional. Either way, it ends up feeling more relaxed, and honestly, much easier for everyone.

Perfectionism

This is probably the biggest one. There’s a lot of pressure around weddings to make everything perfect. Every detail, every moment, every part of the day. But the weddings people actually remember aren’t the ones where everything went exactly as planned they’re the ones that felt memorable and real. Yes, something might run a little behind. Maybe something might not look exactly how you pictured it and it’s important to remember that’s okay. Because at the end of the day, no one is there judging the details. They’re there for you. To celebrate you, be with you, and experience the day with you. And that’s what people remember.

Letting go of a few things doesn’t take away from your wedding, it actually gives it more space to feel like what it’s supposed to be. When things feel simple, natural, and easy, you notice more. You’re more present. You actually get to enjoy it. And that’s the kind of wedding people really want to go to.
